Case Study: Theresa L Hatton Building Design
Theresa worked for many years in engineering practices then studied building and interior design. Finally, six years ago, she branched out on her own in Theresa L. Hatton Building Design.
Theresa was deeply involved in her business from the start but realised that to grow she needed to work on it as well as in it. She wanted to learn business management and gain marketing skills so contacted Thom Lloyd and Debbie Steer at the Launceston Business & Employment office.
To start with Theresa was looking for help with establishing and growing her small architectural practice. Thom provided Theresa advice on business and marketing plans, gave her the opportunity to network and suggested a range of Regional Learning sessions in marketing. “Theresa attended the courses and has meticulously applied her new skills and knowledge to the business which has resulted in the planned success,” Thom said.
Thom was also impressed by the clear effort Theresa has made to be part of the Enterprise Centre network. This strategy has contributed substantially to the growth of her practice.
Theresa has always worked hard on the design side of her career but working with Thom gave her the chance to bring new skills to her business by doing some formal training and planning.
“Thom explained the need for business and marketing plans and provided templates for me to work on” Theresa said. “I’ve completed certificate courses at a price I can afford and met lots of like-minded business owners. As my practice has grown and improved, so has my knowledge.”
“I’ve used the Enterprise Centre resource for several years now. I’ve recommended the service to many people starting out or just dipping their toes into the business world.”
“After all, where else would you get the chance to brainstorm ideas and solutions with experienced people who can really help?”
