An excited group of council and sports officials gathered on the evening of Tuesday 6 May in the heart land of Tiger country, namely the Longford Football Club, to acknowledge the formal handover of two new coaching boxes.
Representatives from both the Club and local councils were impressed with the quality of the metal fabrication skills on display.
Mr Chris Legge, supervisor for the Westbury Community Health Centre Work for the Dole welding team, is proud of the skills he has passed on to this group of unemployed locals.
The handover of the boxes signified a huge increase in not only the skill levels of the participants but also their self confidence and community involvement.
The State Service Manager for Business & Employment Community Solutions, Mr Ian Fawkner, said “the participants’ skill and personal development, along with making valuable community contributions, is the trademark of all Business & Employment Work for the Dole activity”.
Future plans are being discussed to engage successful graduates from the welding team to earn income within a structured Community Not for Profit Enterprise. More on this development later!
