Business & Employment - A Leading Star for the Tasmanian Community

Community Work Co-ordination services are delivered across Australia, on behalf of the Australian Government, within a national benchmark star rating system. All providers are rated against a range of criteria and compared nationally.
‘It’s not good enough to say you are great at a local level – you have to rate at a national level and be bench marked accordingly’ said Community Solutions Manager, Mr. Ian Fawkner.
Business & Employment enjoys a 4 ½ star rating for each of our three service areas across Tasmania (from a possible maximum of 5). This is a strong indicator to jobseekers and community groups that our service and assistance model for jobseekers is clearly working. The excellent news is that our Tasmanian services compare very strongly at a national level.
Our consistent 4.5 star rating puts our southern and northern performance in the top 10% of providers nationwide whilst our North Western performance in the top 17% of providers nationwide.
So how does this affect our community partners across Tasmania and jobseekers required to complete Work for the Dole?
This is where the rubber hits the road – both community groups and jobseekers need to know when they deal with the Community Work Co-ordination Team at Business & Employment they are dealing with the best in Australia. We know Tasmanian conditions and regional requirements extremely well.
Community groups and jobseekers are encouraged to contact their nearest office for a confidential inquiry as to how we may be able to assist them “become stars as well”.

The Vietnam Veterans Association, based in the Coronation Hall at Brighton, are deeply involved in assisting the local community and passing on skills to a group of keen Work for the Dole participants.
Recent vandalism within the region has focused the attention of the participants on providing new outdoor furniture for the public areas throughout the Brighton area. Under the guidance of the Vietnam Veterans the group is pictured assembling park tables and benches that have been produced by another Work for the Dole Team in the North of the State.
The ‘flat pack’ furniture is manufactured at the Forestry Tasmania Holly Bank facility and delivered to community groups across the State by the team at Business & Employment. Furniture has been supplied to community activities in Queenstown, Zeehan and now Brighton. If any community group is interested in gaining furniture from the Forestry Tasmania Work for the Dole team they should contact their local Business & Employment office to arrange the order.

An excited group of council and sports officials gathered on the evening of Tuesday 6 May in the heart land of Tiger country, namely the Longford Football Club, to acknowledge the formal handover of two new coaching boxes.
Representatives from both the Club and local councils were impressed with the quality of the metal fabrication skills on display.
Mr Chris Legge, supervisor for the Westbury Community Health Centre Work for the Dole welding team, is proud of the skills he has passed on to this group of unemployed locals.
The handover of the boxes signified a huge increase in not only the skill levels of the participants but also their self confidence and community involvement.
The State Service Manager for Business & Employment Community Solutions, Mr Ian Fawkner, said “the participants’ skill and personal development, along with making valuable community contributions, is the trademark of all Business & Employment Work for the Dole activity”.
Future plans are being discussed to engage successful graduates from the welding team to earn income within a structured Community Not for Profit Enterprise. More on this development later!
Work for the Dole has Children Running

The Business & Employment Work for the Dole Team has just completed their work creating a safe and interesting playground facility for the children attending the Stewart Street Childcare Centre in Launceston. A once water sodden and unfriendly section of the grounds has been transformed by the Business & Employment Work for the Dole participants into a children’s wonderland where the only limiting factor is imagination. The jobseekers feel justifiably proud at their creation as they completed the landscape design, timber fabrications and basic ‘hard work’ that was required to complete the project. If the exuberance and energy levels of the children are any indication they have given the work team a big ‘thumbs up’ for providing their new play area.
